The Expectations
Today for day six we're going to get into the day itself - Christmas day. People have expectations about how Christmas time is going to be based on how the previous Christmas have gone. And that could be that the expectations are set high or expectations are set low in regards to the enjoyment and the satisfaction that comes from the day.
Outcome: Low Expectations
Say for example expecting the worst you can enter the room of whatever Christmas day is for you and if you are expecting that you know that Uncle Bob or Aunty Betty, or what have you, they're going to say something or they going to do something. And then you know and that's going to upset you yet again. So then when they say something that's even remotely link and it's like that could be quite left of field but your mind goes "nup, they're doing it all over again" and you get upset or you decide that your not going take it anymore and that's that I'm it's on.
Low Expectations – The results
So look, it's about looking at just looking if expectations are set low you will go in looking for it and then when something happens it will confirm exactly what you are looking for and the situation could potentially be blown out all of the portion of what actually could be.
Outcome: High Expectations
Just as a flip side what if you go in there instead and be expecting the best expecting that this could be amazing Christmas where everyone is going to share gifts, we're are they're going get along, to be hospitable to everyone and it's going to be a very pleasant day. It's going to be a day of coming to together and all parties are going to be happy. Yeah, so at least if you going in expecting that when things come up that are in that realm- great. When things come up that are not you know, to that you are you going to respond but doesn't mean you going to react like in the first situation. So if you looking for the goodness of the day you find the goodness the day. If you looking for what's going to go wrong then you'll find the things that will go wrong. It's just the way it works, it's the way we interact with our world.
Be Present and Respond
So be present yeah - I'll put out there be present look full what is going to be awesome about it. Look if you know that there is a cycle of things happen in a certain order and at a certain time then maybe just workout if you want to be there for those events as they unfold. Maybe there's actually a critical time that it's not okay to stay and it is time to leave.
The Next Instalment
I'll leave it that because there is something I want to share with you in the next one which is all about Christmas day as well so I'll leave it that there and I hope to have you on board for day seven all of the 12 days of Christmas. I look forward to see you then.
